MOLD ANALYSIS

In order to give mold users a more detailed understanding of what mold steels are applied to molds, Xiaolin Mold Co., Ltd. shares the methods and uses of commonly used steels:

Inner Mold (Moving Mold, Fixed Mold, Inserts, Lifters, Sliders, etc.):

Molds with no requirements or very low frequency: 45# (C1045 US, CK40 German, S45C Japanese); 50# (C1045 US, CK53 German, S50C Japanese)

General requirement molds: P20 Pre-hardened Polished Mold Steel (P20 US, 1.2311 German, 618 Swedish, 3Cr2Mo GB)

High requirement molds: 718 and Pre-hardened Polished Mold Steel (P20+Ni US, 1.2738 German, 718 Swedish, 3Cr2NiMo GB)

Higher requirement molds: 738 (4Cr2NiMnMo GB)

Molds requiring mirror polishing: NAK80 (P21H US, NAK80 Japanese, 12Ni3 GB) and other precipitation hardening mold steels

Corrosion-resistant molds: Used when corrosive gases are generated during injection molding or strong acidic materials are used: M300 Corrosion Resistant (Austria) (3Cr17Mo GB), etc., and used for mirror polishing

S136H Corrosion Resistant Polished Mold Steel: 420 US, 1.2083 German, S136H Swedish, 3Cr13 GB

Mold Base:

Generally not required: 45# (C1045 US, CK40 German, S45C Japanese)

Commonly used: 50# (C1045 US, CK53 German, S50C Japanese)

Ordinary requirement mold base: 55# (C1045 US, CK56 German, S55C GB)

Required, large mold base: GS638 (P20 US, GS638 German, 42CrMo GB)

Parts:

Guide Pillar: 20# (S20C US) 20Mn2B(SMn420) etc., after carburizing and quenching, hardness >= 55HRC

T8A, T10A, etc., after surface quenching, hardness >= 55HRC

45# after quenching and tempering, surface quenching, low temperature tempering, hardness >= 55HRC

Guide Bushing: Brass H62 or Copper Alloy
